Interview with Marianne Lovink about her show on now at Olga Korper Gallery. This is the last weekend to catch the show!
Yesterday I was gallery-sitting for the Red Head Gallery in 401 Richmond. Gallery sitting is typically a pretty boring/relaxing five hours with not much to do but chill, play on the internet and talk with visitors. Yesterday was a bit slower (ok, it was St Patrick’s Day) so I took a few minutes to walk around the building and check out what else was happening…
Here were my top shows of the afternoon…
The stunning and meticulous work of Marianne Lovink at Olga Korper Gallery.
A collaborative project with BRUNO BILLIO and SAM MOGELONSKY for Room 209 during “Come Up to My Room 2012” at the Gladstone Hotel, Toronto.
BILLIO and MOGELONSKY love all things that shine and spin. By using this mutual interest as a starting point, they have created an installation where two independently shiny and spinning objects are reflected and repeated indefinitely within a space.

BILLIO is the resident artist at the Gladstone Hotel and an installation artist, sculptor, and designer. He has gained notoriety for his inventive use of stacking objects and his ability to reinterpret the everyday through spatial and contextual re-appropriation.
MOGELONSKY is an emerging Toronto-based artist. She holds an MFA from Central Saint Martin’s College of Art, London, UK. Mogelonsky constructs whimsical installations and sculptural forms that investigate storytelling and repetition.
BILLIO and MOGELONSKY have both exhibited within Canada and internationally.

While I was in London, I worked for a great sculpture gallery: Pangolin London. In browsing, I came across this recent exhibition of theirs called ‘Two and a Half Dimensions’, curated by Marcus Harvey. The show brings together painterly and sculptural works and takes an interesting approach to the transitions between painting and sculpture.
Despite the awful road conditions on Friday (I was driving at 30km/hr on the 401 for a long stretch), a friend and I journeyed up to Peterborough, ON for the opening of ‘Are We There Yet?’ at ARTSPACE Gallery. The show was wonderfully put together by gallery director Fynn Leitch and also included Garth Leichty’s amazing woven garden hose carpet and work’s made with colored sand by Lauren Hall. It was a super fun night (probably the most fun I’ve ever had at an opening) so thanks do much to the whole ARTSPACE Crew! (Images: Photos by karol o. / decipherimages.com)

The next morning, before getting back on the road, we went to the Art Gallery of Peterborough to check out their new show, ‘Streaming Alterity.’ It was a very interesting exhibition of work exploring feminist issues. My favorite works were Rebecca Belmore’s photographs, Johanna Householder’s installation and projection of herself as Princess Leah, and Christina Zeidler’s video of the deer reading and at the computer. They had a great permanent collection as well!
